Football League Championship Season Starts 6-Aug!

The Football League Championship (newly sponsored by npower) kicks off on Friday 6-Aug! The first game of the season sees Watford travel to newly promoted Norwich for a Friday lunchtime kickoff (Mountain time). The game is live on Fox Soccer Plus, but is being rebroadcast at 5:00pm, which will be our official viewing time at the British Bulldog - please join us!

There are two more games on Saturday (7-Aug) that are scheduled to be on FS+, Burnely vs Nottingham Forest at 8:00am MT, and Leeds vs Derby at 10:00am MT. I have confirmed that the Bulldog will be open for these games, so hopefully you'll be able to make those too.

The 1st 3rd Friday is rapidly upon us and hence its time to talk Watford Football at the British Bulldog Fri, Jan 15th at 7:30pm. The loan market will be in full swing by then and the rumors that we are looking to buy some striker from the MK Dons should by confirmed or just another garbage Internet sound bite.

Plus we are getting paid by Portsmouth finally, the Premier League is holding back their TV money and paying the three clubs they owe money to with the TV money.

Will Captain America still be a Hornet on the 15th?

Rapids Tie on Jersey Arrival

In late planning we made our way down to the British Bulldog to celebrate the Hornets first 10 points of the season and watch a some what frustrating Earthquakes Rapids MLS game. We were all in an upbeat mood with the recent win against Plymouth, knowing that reality is on horizon with the up coming fixtures.

The arrival of Jenkins away jersey was a fashion statement to say the least with additional orders to be executed after positive feedback from the usual suspects. The yellow could be described as roadworks yellow for some of the WatfordDenver faithful but these fine folks did not waiver their future purchase plans.

I place my argument that Watford should be top of the table due the late goals and dropped points but this was seen as a delusional, even though I did follow up the statement that we still be fighting relegation come the end of the season.

As the night came to a close Coner Casey scored a penalty in injury time to get a valuable point as the Rapids push for the MLS playoffs.

Now will we have 20 points by Thanksgiving?

British Bulldog Pub, Watford, and gifts of Cheerwine from the Carolinas just reinforced the joy in having the new season up and running for the Watford fans in the Mile High City.

All the buzz was from the 4-2 win at Forest, with the consensus that Smith was on his way which has all been confirmed since last week. Jersey names were locked in, a random Ipswich fan was offering Priskin for $1, and agreement was made that the next 6 weeks is key for us to stay up.

A no show from Lea was disappointingly noted, but there will be next time. Please post and comments ideas for our next gathering.

Another night at the Hornet and another night good times and Watford banter. Pleased with the announcement of the Watford road jersey (hey we are in the US), started the strategic plans to make a road trip to the UK to get 3 games in 8 days, it maybe possible. In Agreement with John's comments from Texas that "Malky smacks of taking the cheap option" in the managerial selection.

Most important business of the night was the analysis of next season's fixtures, which in summary we agreed that were not going to be relegated as there are at least 3 teams worst than us but will just stay up by the skin of our teeth. August, September and December are key months for our survival as we start with the relegation battle game against Doncaster.

Here are the predictions

Next Executive Watford Denver Supporters meeting is this Thursday 7:30 June 18th @ the Hornet Pub on South Broadway, their website has gone all sophisticated but its still the same old comfortable sweatshirt wearing Hornet.

Fixtures will be announced Wednesday and with MacKay back in charge there is a substantial amount to be processed over cold amber liquid.

End of the 2008/09 Season: Watford 3 - 1 Derby County

The 2008/09 campaign came to an end with a meaningless, but still satisfying, win over Derby County. The 6:15am Mountain Time kick-off was a test of loyalty, but I'm pleased to say I was up and almost awake for the game. How many of these Watford players will be back next season, I wonder?

Watford finished in 13th place - an enormous achievement given where we were a few months ago. We even finished above Doncaster, Palace, and Coventry - teams that didn't even appear on Geoff's fixture list for those in danger of relegation.

How much credit is due to Brendan Rodgers? Under Boothroyd and Mackay, we were accumulating points at the rate of 1.0 per game. If that had continued for the entire season, we would have finished with 46 points - tied with Norwich for the final relegation spot, and hoping that our goal difference would have kept us up. Under Rodgers, we accumulated points at the rate of 1.44 per game. Over a 46-game season, that would have given us 66 points, which would have left us in 9th place.

Of course our recent form has been better than that. Since January, we have accumulated points at the rate of 1.55 per game. Had we been able to sustain that over the entire season, we would have finished on 71 points and in 8th place - just outside the playoff places. For me though, the turning point of the season was the FA Cup game against Chelsea - not only a great performance, but the only game this season I was able to watch live on TV. Since that game, we have accumulated points at the rate of 1.75 per game. Extrapolating that to the entire season would have given us 80 points - enough to finish 3rd, and only 3 points off an automatic promotion place.

These are the margins that define success and failure in the Second Division. Roll on next season!!!

Thanks to Alice here is the photo from the grand inaugural Watford Denver's supporters club meeting. A great night by all indeed. We are looking to setup the next gathering and are working through the details at the moment.

With recent results we can finally look forward to a relaxing Sunday morning listening to the game on line where we are not steering down the barrel of League One donkey football. Once again there will be tranquility across homes in the Watford Denver clan.

Watford Denver - Inaugural Meeting

Fantastic evening and thank you to all of you who attended the inaugural Watford Denver's Supporter Club meeting, with power of the Watford Fan network we were able to hook up with a number of fans locally and from afar.

There was a mix of doubters of whether we could stay up (OK just Paul,so the mathematical possibility had to be calculated), if the Watford away Jersey color for the 09/10 had been decided which I can confirm that it hasn't yet per the fine folks at Watford FC Media Relations. A vocal debate if Watford won 4-0, or 4-1 in the 97/98 season against Luton, Steve sorry you lose out to Alice on that one as it was 4-0 thanks to the exquisite historical documents of BSAD.

Great stories on how each of us ended up being Watford fans, who was last at a game, which goes to Curtis for this seasons home game against Palace. A lot of fun, laughs and Watford Banter.

The Penultimate item on the agenda was how do we get Mr. DeMerit as an Honorary President of Watford Denver, we were all in agreement that it was a grand idea, now the wheels are in motion that of how to pull it off.

And finally we were all in agreement that this gathering would be the first of many.

To celebrate the milestone of reaching 50 points and looking likely that we will stay up, the first official meeting of the Denver Watford's Supporter Club will take place maybe this week but definitely next week at the latest. There have been many unofficial meetings so this will bring some order to the chaos, well possibly. Everyone is welcome; I'll keep you updated on the details with in the upcoming days.
